Things I Was Grateful For in January

One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to be grateful every day. To find something in every day that made me happy, no matter how small, or how bad the rest of the day was. I have managed to keep with this resolution so far, and have kept a diary of these little things to look back on, so I thought I’d share them here too.

I’m thankful for my family and friends, for my home and my health, for the health and happiness of those around me everyday, every single day. I never forget how lucky I am. But sometimes a day is just rubbish. Its stressful or hectic or sad. But finding a little thing that was good, something specific to that day, can really change the way you feel come the end of the day.

In January I was grateful for…

  1. A day spent at home with Tom
  2. A kind and generous gift from my Mum
  3. Friends at work
  4. My class being pleased to see me
  5. A sunny day for a school trip
  6. A phone call from my Grandparents
  7. The time to finish clearing the spare room
  8. A super clean bathroom
  9. Time and energy to workout
  10. A productive afternoon on PPA (planning, preparation and assessment)
  11. Getting out for a power walk
  12. 3 years of Harriet Pug
  13. An early finish on Tom’s Birthday
  14. A lovely day out
  15. 3 hours chatting to Tom in the car
  16. Exciting news from a family member
  17. Trying out a different courtesy car
  18. Leftover so I didn’t have to cook
  19. Power walk with friends
  20. Going for dinner with Tom
  21. Spending time with my sister
  22. My new little reading corner
  23. Chocolate
  24. Friends to power walk with, even when we’ve all worked late
  25. A lie in, an early finish, a trip to the library and flowers from Tom
  26. A message from a friend
  27. A hug when I was feeling sad
  28. Pizza
  29. Finally finishing all of the jobs around the house
  30. Starting a new book
  31. Making plans with a friend

Its really made each day more positive, like focusing on trying out a new car rather than the annoyance of having to take my car to the garage! I’ve enjoyed reflecting back at the end of the month too.

Do you find things to be grateful for each day?

Thanks for popping by,

Kimberley x

  1. I tried the 100 happy days challenge albeit a bit edited (the original challenge was to take a photo and post to facebook but it seems a bit ‘in your face’ for people who might be going through a rough patch, so like you I just make a note just for myself). I think your idea works better though, because we can’t be ‘happy’ every day, but we can be grateful! Funnily enough, I have a post sat in my drafts about it, because one of the things I was pleased with was how few of the things that made me happy came from spending money, rather like your list 🙂

  2. What a lovely idea. I’m a big believer in your frame of mind affecting your day to day so it’s nice to remind yourself of the things you are grateful for rather than focus on the negative. 🙂 Thanks for linking up to #KCACOLS
