Who is this big baby and what have they done with my tiny newborn?!? Teddy is so alert and aware now, he watches everything you do and is so interested. He’s super smiley and chatty and has started to notice other babies and to interact with them too.
Teddy is really strong and has great neck and torso control. He loves to stand on his feet and supports his own weight really well. Tummy time is still hated but he taught himself to roll to avoid it completely! I put him down on his front a few weeks ago and he flipped straight to his back as though it was no big deal, then absolutely refused to do it again that day. The following day he managed to roll slowly from front to back again and is now able to just turn himself straight over really easily. He often rolls from back to side too but doesn’t make it all the way on to his front yet.
Hand chomping and finger sucking are still favourite activities and he has now learnt to reach for and grasp objects purposefully, so most things end up in his mouth! This has also allowed him to play with toys more and he really enjoys his play gym. He can reach for the hanging toys and has also learnt to spin the shapes on the side, which he really enjoys.
This month we have started to do some baby activities for the first time, instead of just meeting friends for lunch like we were before! We have been swimming and Teddy loved it, he was happy shrieking and kicking his legs and not phased by it at all. We also started Rhythm Time, a music group, which I knew he’d enjoy because he loves it when I sing at home and likes to join in. This week we had our first baby massage class, which I thought would be calming and relaxing for him but he just chatted away through the whole thing! We have yet to crack the car hating which is still pretty stressful although if we time it juuuuuust right he will fall asleep which is actually ideal for when we are heading to an activity so he is awake and happy for when it starts.
Over the past couple of weeks we seem to have fallen into a loose routine, completely of Teddy’s doing. He usually wakes up for the day sometime between 6.45 and 8am and will be awake for 1.5-2 hours before napping for 30-45 minutes, and this repeats all day long with him then going to sleep for the night between 6.30 and 8pm. I say for the night but that is actually quite misleading as he wakes to be fed as frequently as every 1.5 hours all night! We just know its his ‘night-time sleep’ because he’ll then only wake to feed, barely opening his eyes, and will go straight back to sleep. We will sometimes be treated to a 3 or 4 hour stretch but this has been pretty rare over the past couple of weeks (4 month sleep regression?!?). We are still co-sleeping for at least part of every night. When Teddy wakes in the night he feeds pretty quickly and quietly which is the only saving grace of up to 8 feeds a night!
Teddy is still in size 3 nappies but has moved to 3-6 clothes. I had to quickly buy him some summer clothes when the sun showed its face for a few days after the longest winter! Teddy had never experienced warm weather before! I finally took him to be weighed at 16 weeks and he was 13lbs 10oz, still on the 25th centile. He is still exclusively breastfed and feeds hourly during the day, so I guess you could say he’s a snacker!
Teddy Welbank you are so very loved.
Thanks for popping by,
