Out and About

Cotswolds Weekend

My lovely best friend Sarah, who was also my bridemaid, is lucky enough to live in a beautiful part of the country, Wiltshire in the Cotswolds. Its over a three hour drive from here, so I don’t make it down that often, but always love the time I spend there.

A couple of weeks ago I headed down on Friday evening for a girly weekend. The weekend started pretty badly, I got stuck behind some escapee sheep and then a road was closed leading to a huge diversion! It ended up taking over 4 hours for me to get there and it was pretty late by the time I arrived. The weekend went uphill from there luckily! As I arrived so late we just had a super quick chat before heading to bed, where Sarah had left me chocolates on my pillow!

After a lie in on Saturday morning we made breakfast then headed out for a walk with Barney, their working cocker spaniel. Living in a little village surrounded by countryside is amazing, especially if you have a dog. We literally walked out of the front door into a field and walked for a whole hour through beautiful countryside, without having to drive somewhere first.

After walking, we headed into Bath for some lunch and shopping. We decided that cake was totally acceptable lunch food, so headed to Jacob’s Coffee House to try out their gluten-free selection (Sarah is coeliac so can’t eat gluten). We shared two amazing bakes, a lemon and rosemary polenta cake and a salted caramel brownie. They were so good, you couldn’t even tell they were gluten free.

After lunch cake we hit the shops. Bath is such a beautiful city and I loved wandering the little streets and admiring all of the old buildings. A new Primark has opened, so of course we spent longer than planned in there, as well as browsing some other shops too. Then came the big decision of where to eat dinner! We’re both equally as indecisive so it took a while! We read a lot of different menus and tried a few places then ended up being full, before we came across Charm, a little independent Thai restaurant with lots of gluten free choices. The staff were very friendly and helpful and our food came out quickly. We shared Red and Green Thai chicken curries with rice, they were so tasty that we tried to scrape up every last drop, the waitress joked that she wouldn’t mind if we wanted to lick the plates!

After dinner we headed home for a girly evening of Pocahontas, chocolate and hair braiding (I promise we’re 27 not 12). After browsing Pinterest for ideas, I tried lots of different styles in Sarah’s hair.

Would any one be interested in a tutorial for this braid?

Sunday started with another big dog walk. This time we drove the short distance to Westonbirt Arboretum to see the beautiful autumn colours. Barney loved running around in such a huge space and we loved the gorgeous Autumn scenery. It was very busy but there are so many different paths and trails that there is plenty of space to explore away from the crowds.

Before I headed home, Sarah made some delicious butternut squash soup and I helped her to set up a secondary Instagram account dedicated to all of the amazing healthy gluten-free food she makes. If you’re interested you can find her @gluten_free_taste_full. Then I set off for the journey home, which was thankfully much more straight forward than my journey down had been!

We had such a good weekend and didn’t stop chatting and laughing the whole time. I sometimes feel sad that she lives SO far away, but it makes it all the more special when we go get to spend time together, and I get to visit such a beautiful part of the country too! A weekend with your best friend really is good for the soul isn’t it.

Thanks for popping by,

Kimberley x

  3. Such a lovely weekend! You are right, that part of the country is mesmerising. I love it a lot. My brother in law live there with his family too and we try to sometimes. It is a little bit of a journey for us but when we go we really enjoy the walks and the scenery and of course spending time with the family. Their dog is gorgeous. You did a great job with those braidings! Really enjoyed reading your post. Lovely photos too. Thanks so much for sharing this at #KCACOLS x
