Week 6 Pregnancy Update

I wrote this post on the 13th of May, which seems like such a long time ago now! I wanted to record some thoughts while our pregnancy was still a secret but it seemed to be all I could think about…

It feels so strange to be writing this, my first ever pregnancy update. A post that may never see the light of day. Hopefully all being well I’ll be ready to share this in the next 6 weeks or so. But if all is not well it may well end up in the blog post bin. I just had the urge to write as with all the secrecy there aren’t many people to share all of my thoughts with at the moment!By┬ámy calculations (thanks to various apps and due date calculators) I am 6 weeks and 3 days pregnant. The doctor who I saw this week things I’m 8 weeks. But I think she is wrong.

Finding Out

We found out we were expecting two weeks ago today, with a faint line on a Clear Blue pregnancy test. Too faint to be immediately excited but later that day I got a definite positive on a digital test (despise indenting to wait a few days before testing again!). Several test over the week showed an increasingly darker line.

Symptoms

I had no symptoms before taking the test, just a missed period, which in itself was speculation due to slightly irregular cycles. I have been super tired all this week, which may well be down to a busy weekend and late nights last weekend on a girls’ weekend in Whitby. My boobs have been pretty sore, some days worse than others. I haven’t felt sick or nauseous yet, apart from about 10 minutes yesterday. This is actually making me anxious as everything you read says morning sickness should start at week 6 and is a sign that everything is going well.

How I’m Feeling

Quite anxious and cautiously excited. The first though I have each morning is ‘I’m pregnant!’ closely followed by ‘I hope I’m still pregnant’. I’ve downloaded some apps and tentatively worked out my estimated due date. But it doesn’t seem quite real, especially as I don’t particularly feel ‘pregnant’ yet and have no proof other than home pregnancy tests. And its our little secret too. I kind of just feel in a state of limbo and like time is passing very slowly. I tick off each day but don’t want to be wishing time away either. I just wish there were some reassurances this early on.

Appointments

I went to see the doctor for the first time this week. It was actually a pre-booked medication review as I have an underactive thyroid, so I had a blood test. I’m now waiting for a midwife referral to come through the post, with no idea how long that will take, and with it a hospital referral and my thyroid will need to be monitored closely.

Hopefully I’ll be back with some future updates…
