Pyjamas, Christmas Dinner and the Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up #LittleLoves

Happy New Year!

I hope 2017 is treating you well so far. We had a lovely slow start to the year, meeting friends for lunch on New Year’s Eve then spending the evening on the sofa with hot chocolate and Harry Potter, before watching the fireworks at midnight. Our four days off together were spent clearing out and cleaning and basically hibernating at home.

Going back to work on Tuesday was a bit of a shock, and not a particularly good start to the year work wise, but things improved from Wednesday so feeling a little more positive now. The chocolates in the staff room also hindered my healthy eating resolution so I’m thinking of officially starting 2017 again on Monday with my positive pants on!

Here are my first Little Loves of the year.

This week I …

I’ve still been reading Marie Kondo’s The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up from last week. It actually really inspired me, and along with the thought of possibly moving house this year, spurred me into action and I have had an amazing clear out. I started with clothes as the book suggested and have taken 5 whole bin liners of clothes to the charity shop. I then went a little of course and tackled the spare room as a whole, which is not recommended in the book, but was definitely needed. I feel amazing for it and can’t wait for the weekend to carry on tidying. The house feels lighter and fresher and when its done I think it will feel like a much calmer and more relaxing place to be.

As part of my clear out I’ve collected 60 books that I wont read again, they’re currently listed on eBay if anyone is interested haha. I’m keen to carry on reading lots this year (all recommendations welcome, I’ll pretty much read anything) but am going to try and use the library more, as although I love my house to be filled with books, I am running out of space to store them!

Some of the Harry Potter films on TV and its made me want to read all of the books and watch the films from the start again. We also watched the new Sherlock which I loved, it got me really excited for the new series. We caught up on some other Christmas specials like Bake Off and Take Me Out.

Some new year’s resolutions, although I rarely stick to them. I’m hoping this might be my year! I want to focus on the little things, be more present and find reasons to be grateful everyday. Being healthier is always a resolution of mine too so I’ve been loosely back on slimming world with the intention of being 100% back on plan next week. I’ve cooked lots of slimming world friendly meals like this cauliflower crust pizza. Tidying my house wasn’t a resolution when I first wrote them, but after receiving the Marie Kondo book for Christmas it has become the one I’ve made most progress with so far!

I also made my second Christmas dinner of the season for me and Tom on New Year’s Day. Its become a tradition of ours since we don’t spend Christmas together so we open some presents and eat another Christmas dinner together on New Year’s Day instead. I also made an apple crumble for pudding, to make the most of the feasting before the January diets started.

Pyjamas for the first two days of the year! It was lovely to be home and cosy and hibernating for a couple of days before facing the world again. I also wore some new boots that I got in the Next sale, I was so close to buying them at full price so was super happy when they were reduced to £12. But then I wore them for lunch on New Year’s Eve and they literally ate my feet! I have massive raw blisters on both heels so I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to wear them again boooo.

and saw lots of fireworks on New Year’s Eve. I also heard lots of children in my class wishing me a Happy New Year and telling me they had missed me, which is always nice and makes going back to work a little easier!

And lastly…

We have another weekend of no plans which is lovely as the end of last year was so busy. I’m looking forward to doing some more tidying and sitting at my newly organised desk to write some blog posts, it hasn’t been clear enough to use for a least a year.

I hope you all have a good week. I’m linking up with the lovely Morgana at Coffee Work Sleep Repeat for this week’s #LittleLoves and am looking forward to reading about what everyone else has been loving this week too.

Thanks for popping by,

Kimberley x

  1. Oh I need to give my wardrobe a good clean out too! I’m abusing mine at the moment as I’m waiting for my new ones too arrive! That Christmas dinner looks amazing! Hope you have a wonderful weekend #littleloves

  2. It sounds like you’ve had a great week, with lots of positive starts to the new year what with clearing out of belongings, cooking yummy meals, and Harry Potter.

One of my goals for the year is to use the library more also – I’m working on cutting down unnecessary spending.

I hope you have a great weekend!

  3. Kon-Marieing clothes is a massive eye opener isn’t it! I didn’t think I had that many clothes until I started going through mine! I love the folding too, it’s so nice to open a drawer and see everything that’s in it. And I quite agree that going back on Tuesday was a bit of a shock to the system – we also had chocolate biscuits on the goodie shelf which helped restore morale!!

  4. Wow, you’ve done so much sorting & clearing already! I’m too afraid to read that book…I’d probably end up cleaning the entire house out haha. Good luck with restarting Slimming World, I’ve been doing the same this week. Hope you have a great weekend x

  5. I love decluttering and organising but have never gotten around to reading that book although I hear it’s very good. Looks like you have made a good start. Have a lovely weekend. #LittleLoves

  6. I really want the Marie Kondo book, our house is bursting at the seams with stuff that needs to seriously be decluttered!

I got some new boots in the sale too and ouch, blistered heels. I plastered myself up yesterday to wear them again and they were fine. They still need to be broken in more so little and often is my plan for he minute.

    Have a lovely weekend. xx

  7. Happy New Year, I have so many of the same resolutions. It’s good to start fresh and new again. I am reading this book too. I have the same problem with storage of books. I keep thinking I need to either start using the library or get a kindle. There is no room in my home for them. lol Lovely first #littleloves roundup.

  8. There really is nothing better than a good clear out to start the new year, we did exactly the same. I went back to work on Wednesday and it already feels like I’ve been back for 6 weeks! I’m with you on the ‘use the library’ more – I need to stop storing books too! Enjoy your relaxed weekend xx

  9. Such a lovely, jam packed Little Loves Kimberley. Well done you on channeling your inner Marie Kondo! It feels so go to have a clear out doesn’t it. I done a few mini ones this week, but not to the same extent as you. Have a great weekend xx

  10. You’ve made me want to declutter now! I did a bit before Christmas and took my little nephew a whole heap of clothes my little one had grown out of but I really need to get to grips with the rest of the house. One thing I don’t have loads of is books. I had a huge clear out of them before we moved country 18 months ago so I only have the ones I couldn’t part with now – the rest are on my kindle. I might even download that book now I’ve seen your pics. Your 2nd Christmas dinner is making me crave another one! Hope you have a great weekend!

  11. I would happily live in pyjamas all year round! LOVE them and I love the Next sale too. I read the Harry Potter books last year for the second time and watched all the movies again. I just love HP! x
